5 Tips for Opal Jewelry Care

Opals, regardless of origin, are delicate stones that require some extra care to keep their beautiful colors vibrant.

Be Gentle: Avoiding knocking or scraping, opals can easily scratch or crack.

Avoid Extreme Heat: Opals can become brittle and crack if exposed to prolonged heat. Leave your opal jewelry at home if you will be outside in the heat for a long period of time.

Clean Gently: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe your opal jewelry and make sure you avoid using harsh, cleaning chemicals. We recommend using the soft cleaning cloth that we provide with every ring purchase! Not only will it help care and clean your opal but it also keeps you sterling silver sparkling.

Avoid Direct Sunlight: Opals are similar to turquoise in that their colors can fade or become discolored when exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time.

Avoid Prolonged Water Exposure: Please don't wear your opal ring swimming! A splash of H2O here and there is fine, but immersing your opal for long periods of time is not advisable.
